Special Edition SBS Silent Warriors by Saul David.

Until now, no ‘authorised’ history of the wartime SBS has existed, with previous authors covering WW2 having concentrated on separate strands of the story.

The late Lord (Paddy) Ashdown, himself a member of the Service and Patron to the Association, had spotted this and set out to write the full story for the benefit of the Service. Paddy was working on this book when he sadly passed away in 2018 aged just 77. Harper Collins, the publishers had seen the importance and value of this book and asked renowned historian and author Saul David to take on the project. In Saul’s own words “I was asked to step into Paddy’s sizeable shoes. It was a daunting prospect: not least because Paddy understood the ethos of the Service from personal experience; whereas I am very much an outsider.”

In a fitting tribute, Saul says “This book owes its existence to Paddy’s vision. I hope it does him justice”

This is an important book for all our members and the Association has secured the first 1500 copies as unique and special editions, these copies have been given special end papers and bear the signatures of Saul and our Patron, Admiral of the Fleet The Lord Boyce KG GCB OBE DL.

This limited run will not be available to the public and is only available to members of The Association.
